Because of the corner style, the doors fold back (versus sliding) to reveal the TV and other components. On many armoire units, the TV is kept in a cabinet on top and the components are on the bottom, so those units had four doors. Other units had just two full length doors. This is a great option if you only have room to put the TV in the corner and you are looking for a nice piece of furniture.
We took our search further on to the internet too. So even if the shopping trips really helped us to get the feeling about those and experience them first hand, we actually got our big screen TV entertainment center through internet and I can advise you to do the same.
With wood being a key component for these types of cabinets, you might want to look for a stain or varnish that brings out the natural tones of the wood. However, painted surfaces were not uncommon at that time, so you may want to consider a painted one. Typical colors from the time period include blues, greens, pinks, earth tones and red as an accent color on the interior.
